[A Waste of Time]

“We must find new ways in order to express ourselves so that one day we can be radical artists.”

“That assertion is truly floored, how can one force what is art by breaking away from what we feel? Unless you speak of breaking tradition as a form of art, in which case you may have a point.”

“Of course I have a point, we can no longer sit around and make work that is a bit like a Rothko or a bit like a Hirst; we must break this tradition to create new work.”

“Must we always find new ways, why cannot we stick with what we already have and work from there?”

“That has already been done, the surrealists accomplished that over fifty years ago with montage and collage!”

“What then is this great plan, what is new?”

“Ah, I was hoping you would ask that, that is a very good question…”

“And the answer would be…”

“Well, I haven’t quite got there yet. Perhaps we could have a think together.”

“I am not sure that even with our combined brain power we will be able to discover the ‘new art’ of which you desire”

“Well perhaps we should give it a try. We do not exactly have anything to loose, however we do seem to have a lot to gain.”

“What can we possibly have to gain; a new view of the world? We have plenty of views, which we hardly understand as it is.”

“Yes but this will be the all encompassing view, the view that leaves us finished, satisfied!”

“This is surely unassailable. To presume we can come up with some kind of perfect view, a perfect perspective and perfect reaction, not possible!”

“That may be the case, but until we have tried everything, we cannot know for sure.”

“Your argument is sound in logic, however to waste ones entire life searching for something that is so improbable surely will never prevail.”

“Well perhaps the joy is in the chase, rather than the kill.”

“Perhaps it is.”
